Excerpt
Excerpt: In Chapter 3, you discovered the basic mechanisms by which NRM is formed. A variety of special topics in rock magnetism are investigated in this chapter. These topics include (1) special attributes of some types of NRM, such as the ability to retrieve paleointensity of the geomagnetic field from TRM; (2) concerns about effects of chemical changes on primary NRM; (3) questions about the accuracy of NRM records, in particular the questions of inclination error in DRM and possible directional effects of magnetic anisotropy; and (4) the timing of remanence acquisition by red sediments. There are no definitive answers to some of these questions and concerns. But consideration of these topics is important to interpretation of paleomagnetic data in the coming chapters.
