The consolidated report of the Panel is based on close to 25 individual consultancies reviewing various aspects and describes the strong macro-economic benefits of the project, the impeccable environmental standards introduced in these fragile ecosystems, and some of the remaining social challenges to ensure that benefits are spread throughout the country.
After five years of work, a “picture” is emerging about exactly what Camisea has meant for Peru. The findings and lessons presented here have broad applicability within the country and elsewhere with regard to the challenges and opportunities for developing hydrocarbons responsibly in the context of fragile ecological and social environments.
