Hair Trigger

By: by Holly Bargo

A female gunslinger returns to her hometown to claim her inheritance and get justice for her father’s wrongful death, but crashes into a statute of limitations.

“No little girl should have to see her daddy hanged.” The words slid under the high-pitched wails of the condemned man’s daughter and widow. Harriet didn’t know who said them and didn’t care, even though she empathized with the towheaded child. “Reminds me of the time Angus McGraw was hung for cattle rustlin’,” the same man commented to the person standing next to him. “Who?” “That were ’bout fifteen, mebbe twenty, years past.” It was twelve years ago, Harriet silen...

Once a king and now a police detective and always a hunter, Atlas Leonidus dreamed of his mate and knew the instant her foot touched the soil of his country. In order to secure her cooperation, he drugs, kidnaps, and imprisons his mate who had come to Italy for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation. He's handsome and charming and utterly ruthless: a man who's 1,600 years old doesn't thrive for centuries without believing himself superior to everyone else and doing pretty much as...

“I am disappointed in you, Atlas Leonidus. The process will hasten when the she accepts the mating claim and returns it.” Bianca simply shook her head. His lordship sometimes forgot that in these modern times, women did not simply accept fate. They determined their own paths in lif...

Skeins of Gold: Rumpelstiltkin Retold

By: by Ms. Holly Bargo

This new version of the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale addresses some dangling questions not answered in the original story and is told from the perspective of the miller's daughter.

It’s the lot of women to suffer the stupidity of men. I looked out the window of the grand carriage painted and gilded with the king’s family crest as it carried me from the hovel of my home to the castle where I somehow had to make good on my father’s nonsensical boast that I could spin straw into gold. Had my father not soaked his brain in cheap ale to bolster his courage, he would have realized that, if his boast were true, our family would not live in a hovel and...

Gwen inhaled the soft air, fragrant with the scent of lemon groves and some pretty pink and yellow flowers she didn’t recognize. As she climbed the well-groomed trail that led to the top of a scenic overlook, she wished Douglas could have been there with her on this long-anticipated holiday in sunny Italy. She sighed and paused to rest her aching knees and hips. Getting old sucked. She passed a young couple entwined around one another and taking advantage of the romanti...
