Astrological aspects (conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares, sextiles) between dates of two historical events explain their similar or opposite character. This is illustrated by the example of the Munich Conference (1938) and the birth dates of its participants. Historical repetitions connected with the 60 years period of the Chinese horoscope are considered (Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, 60 years after the peninsula was given to Ukraine by order of Khrushchev). The half-period of 30 years is connected with couples of events combining analogy with contrast (e.g. the Sepoy uprising of 1857 and India's independence of 1947=1857+90). The chronology of the conflicts in the spheres of direct geopolitical influence of Germany, Serbia, Iraq, China and Russia is examined as a continuation of the comparative study of these spheres performed in V. P. Kostov, "The Rules of History". Other regions are also compared historically and geographically - South Europe, Georgia, South America, Spain and Mexico. The book recalls previously developed approaches toward history based on correlation of words, astrological aspects and periodicity defined by the Chinese horoscope and the Lunar Nodes. They are illustrated by new examples. Astonishing correlations are found among the astral signs of the French presidents, the German chancellors and the generals of the Russian Civil War (1918-1922). The strange form of some states such as Mali, Somalia, India and others is associated to inter-ethnic conflicts taking place in these countries. Most countries and peoples of Europe and Asia are grouped in the spheres of direct geopolitical influence of Russia, Germany, Serbia, Iraq and China. Repetition of relationship (defined by ethnic and religious proximity) between countries from these spheres are observed. Systemic approach to life of the highly cultured people provides them with higher level of happiness simply because their lives are better organized, risks are covered, reserves are maintained, dangers avoided, contacts established and so on so forth. Culture is not something that comes only with DNA, but genetic pre-disposition towards culture exists without doubt. Otherwise there would be no examples of people raising themselves above the scum they were born in and reaching high levels of society. Understanding of the elements of high culture, its systemic approach to organizing one’s life, can be practiced by virtually everybody. Writing in the nineteenth century, Hawaiian historian Kepelino said, "However diligently the foreigner seeks, he cannot find all. He gets a fragment here and there and goes home." That is very true. I have read what is available, but changes came so rapidly after 1778 that much of the information about the life and customs of long-ago Hawaii is lost. My greatest help has come from Mary Kawena Pukui. As a little girl in Kau, on the island of Hawaii, she lived with a wise grandmother who told her much about the old ways and beliefs. Young as she was, she listened with deep interest and felt herself a part of the life of the early days. Later, as a translator for Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, she enlarged her knowledge. I hope this book will kindle in boys and girls, and in interested adults, the feeling which Mrs. Pukui has passed on to me about life in old Hawaii and will increase their respect for the wisdom and skill of the Hawaiian people. Hawaiian words used in the text, other than proper names, are identified through the use of italic type. These words are usually defined in the sentence in which they are first used or in the Glossary at the back of the book or both. Most Hawaiian words, like most words in English and other languages, can have more than one meaning depending on how and where they are used. Many Hawaiian words form plurals through the use of preceding articles or by changes in the diacritics (accent markings) within the words. The island of hawaii dominated the culture of the northernmost of the polynesian groups, even before the high chief kamehameha conquered the other islands and formed a united kingdom in the first decade of the nineteenth century. This truly great warrior, diplomat and ruler was born in kohala, but was reared, trained and toughened for his mission in ka-u, the southern and most rugged district of hawaii, where his mother, the high chieftainess kekui-a-poiwa, isolated herself to protect her child against the enmity of rival claimants to highest rank and power. Two centuries ago, when Hawaiian prophets were still honored for their insights, Kapihe was one of the most gifted. A kahuna or priest in the court of Kamehameha I and a descendant of the famed Napua line, he had prophesied the downfall of the kapu, the ancient religious system and the 1819 Battle of Kuamo?o which decided the course of modern Hawaiian history. One of Kapihe's last great prophecies may have been the one recorded in the Journal of the missionary William Ellis. Why after thirty years, should Beckwith’s Hawaiian Mythology be reprinted? Why, for the last twenty-five years, have scholars and amateurs alike sought for either new or used copies of this book which has become a rarity? To begin with, it was the first, and is still the only, scholarly work which charts a pathway through the hundreds of books and articles, many of them obscure and scarce, and through the little-known manuscripts that record the orally transmitted myths, legends, traditions, folktales, and romances of the Hawaiian people. Beckwith herself saw it as a “guide to the native mythology of Hawaii” (p. xxxi), and by mythology she meant “the whole range of story-telling” (p.2). Secondly, from the vantage point of Hawaiian oral narrative the book directs the reader into similar material from peoples elsewhere in Polynesia who are closely related to the Hawaiians, reminding him of relevant narratives from areas west of Polynesia and occasionally even east of Hawaii. This guide to the native mythology of Hawaii has grown out of a childhood and youth spent within sound of the hula drum at the foot of the domelike House of the Sun on the windy island of Maui. There, wandering along its rocky coast and sandy beaches, exploring its windward gorges, riding above the cliffs by moonlight when the surf was high or into the deep forests at midday, we were aware always of a life just out of reach of us latecomers but lived intensely by the kindly, generous race who had chanced so many centuries ago upon its shores. The vibrations of one's name are part of his/her personality and are very important in the case of a political figure. The same applies to names of towns and states. During the First Battle of the Marne (1914) the danger was real that Paris could be captured by the German army. The situation demanded a good concordance on behalf of the combined Franco-British staff so that the attack should be repulsed and the front stabilized. Lili?uokalani was born on September 2, 1838, to the High Chief Caesar Kapa?akea and High Chiefess Keohokalole. She was named Lili?u (Smarting) Kamaka?eha (The Sore Eye). This volume, compiled at the request of Scott Atkinson on behalf of The Nature Conservancy, includes excerpts from selected historical records and oral history interviews with elder kamaaina of the Kapalilua region of South Kona on the island of Hawaii. The area traditionally identified as Kapalilua extends from the Kealia-Hookena section of Kona to Kaulanamauna, situated on the Kona boundary of Kau, and includes the lands of Papa, Hoopuloa, and Milolii (Figure 1). This book of genealogies, Kumuhonua, was copied from the Honolulu Archives, Book #44, back in the eighties. This book contains mostly ancient genealogies, with some lines leading into the 19th century. You will not find very many modern family connections in this book. In this book, Kumuhonua, you will find pieces of information not available in other published genealogies. For example, Fornander states that he doesn't know from which family descends Kapoleia Kauila, the wife of Kalanikukuma. Her genealogy is included in this book. Also, see the marriage between ‘Umikanaha (kaikaina of Kuwalupakumoku) and Kamaleamaka(kaikuahine/kaikua’ana of Piliwale), thus tying the Kalona branch of O’ahu to the ali’i of Kaua’i.
