Executive Summary: This is the first semiannual report for the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the National Science Foundation (NSF). It summarizes the major activities and accomplishments of the office from April 1, 1989 to September 30, 1989. The Foundation is an independent agency, established in 1950, to promote and advance scientific progress by sponsoring research and education in science and engineering. NSF is led by the National Science Board, which makes policy decisions, and by its Director, who is responsible for day-to-day administration of the agency. The Inspector General reports to the Board.
