1. INTRODUCTION About four drcadcs ago, hcabh education activities were initiated by WHO and its Regional Office for South-East Asia as part of WHO'S programme of work. Member States responded by establishing an appropriate health education infrastructure, developing manpower and providing scrvices within thcir rcspcclivc ministries of health. Over thc years, several regional and nalional mccti~gso n hcatth education have been convened to create awareness of new and changing concepts, to gain knowlcdgc and skills, and to improve plannin& implcmcntation and evaluation of health education training, services and rescarch.
