1 INTRODUCTION TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS on Quality Assurance in Laboratory Practices were held on 11 September 1996 under the Chairmanship of Dr H.M.S.S.D. Herath. Deputy Director-General of Health Services (Public Health), Ministry of Health. Highways and Social Services, Sri Lanka. Dr Jigmi Singay, Director, Health Division. Ministry of Health and Education, Bhutan, was elected Rapporteur. The agenda and annotated agenda, as approved by the Regional Committee (SENRC49111 and 11 Add.1) and the working paper for the Technical Discussions (SEAIRC49I12) formed the basis for the discussions.
