The various forms of somatization and the different terms which have been used to refer to them were discussed. It was noted that somatization refers to repeated presentation of various bodily complaints which cannot be explained by any known physical illness, or which do not have any demonstrable organic basis. It is known to be widely prevalent in primary care and psychiatric outpatient settings. Persons with somatization are often unrecognized, misdiagnosed or over-investigated.
