This document presents a country by country tabulation of data available on the epidemiology and control of the leishmaniases. The main aspects covered include: the parasites, the proven or suspected vectors, the proven or suspected reservoirs, the geographical distribution with indication of the main foci, the severity of the disease with indication of prevalence and incidence, the public health implications with particular reterence to morbidity and mortality, the socio-cultural and economic factors involved in transmission of thc different forms of leibhmaniasis found in the 82 countries or territories dealt with in this document, and finally the main past or ongoing control activitirs, when known, are briefly reviewed. No hihliographical references are given since these will be the object of a companion document to be issued later, in which some 800 references on the epidemiology of the leishmaniases will be listed hy country or territory and hy ;tuthor.
