A Working Group on Quahty Assurance of Health Laboratories (originally entitled Working Group on Quality Control in Health Laboratories) was convened by the WHO Regional Office for Europe, in collaboration with the Government of Belgium, in Brussels from 4 to 7 December 1979. The meeting brought together temporary advisers (clinical chemists, haematologists and microbiologists) from eight countries to pool national experiences of quality control in health laboratories and to offer recommendations for its extension to countries within the European Region which at present lack organized national schemes. Professor A. Lafontaine was elected Chairman of the Group and Professor M.J. Krawczynski Vice-Chairman. Professor T.P. Whitehead and Dr F.P. Woodford acted as Rapporteurs. A list of participants is given in - - the Annex.
