PREFACE A WHO Meeting of Investigators of Dependence-Producing Drugs in Body Fluids was convened i n Geneva from 28 January - 1 February 1974.5 A short bibliography of a n a l y t i c a l methods f o r detecting dependence-producing drugs, which had been prepared as background material f o r t h e meeting, was warmly welcomed by the p a r t i c i p a n t s who expressed the view t h a t it should be made more comprehensive and issued as a s e p a r a t e p u b l i c a t i o n . The only previously published comprehensive bibliography concerned with the a n a l y s i s of drugs used f o r nonmedical purposesb- covers a l l known dependence-producing drugs and deals with applicable a n a l y t i c a l methods described up to May 1972. In the present bibliography an attempt has been made t o s e l e c t from t h e s c i e n t i f i c l i t e r a t u r e and bibliographical compilations published or prepared since 1969 a l l references t h a t r e l a t e d i r e c t l y t o the detection of dependence-producing drugs i n body f l u i d s and/or r e f e r t o technical problems connected with a n a l y t i c a l methods used. Some references to a r t i c l e s dated e a r l i e r than 1969 describing methods t h a t a r e considered t o be s t i l l relevant have also been included. Every e f f o r t has been made to include a l l work published between 1969 and October 1974. In t h i s bibliography, t i t l e s of a r t i c l e s in English and French a r e quoted i n t h e o r i g i n a l language only, and t i t l e s i n other European languages a r e followed by t r a n s l a t i o n s i n t o both English and French. The work i s arranged under 11 main headings - a general section on methods of detection followed by s e c t i o n s covering the main groups of dependence-producing drugs with subsections for individual drugs.
