Excerpt
1. INTRODUCTION The Task Force on appropriate technology for maternal and newborn care was formed to enhance the principles of primary health care by the use of appropriate technology in the improvement of the health of mothers and children. Primary health care (PHC), in the I context of Health for All by the Year 2000, means the provision of means and ways to PHC workers to improve the health of the communities and families, given their current resources. Appropriate health technologies are essential tools in the approach for achieving health for all.
