Because this WAS an inforinal consultation, there was no chairmen, butrather moderators of Individual sessions. The approach of the meeting was to review problems hriefly , then proceed with seeking solutionsin hetter distribution of drugs, better education, wise use of regulations and research. ln all of these areas collaboration with industry is possible and de sirable . A series of formal papers were presented (see agenda, annex 3 ) covering four broad topics. 'Ihese themes included possi blesolutions ; better drug distribution ; information and education; control and registration ; research and development of more effective and safer iherupeutic agents. Each presentation was followed by extensive discussions and resulted i na numbcr of recommendations which oredetailed below. It was the strong connensus of the group that this initial dialogue between WHO and industry should be continued and expanded through the establishment of a number of small working etoups to consider sl)ecifSc recommendations. It is hoped that this cooperative effort with thc phrinnceutical industry may also serve as e model for cooperation of WHO with other industries.
