In World Health Assembly r e s o l u t i o n wtiA28.72 concerning blood and blood products, t h e D i r e c t o r Gcneral was requested: . r r t h e rs t u d y t h e p r a c t i c e of commercial plasmapi>eresis including the h e a l t h hazards and e t h i c a l i m p l i c a t i o n s , p a r t i c u l a r l y i n developing c o u n t r i e s , and - t o take s t e p s t o develop good manufacturing p r z c t i c e s s p e c i a l l y f o r blood and blood components i n order t o p r o t e c t the h e a l t h of both donor and r e c i p i e n t s . In the implementation of t h e s e r e q u e s t s t h c I n t e r i i a t i o n a l Requirements f o r t h e C o l l e c t i o n , Processin25 and Quality Control oi: Human Blood were formulated during which a numher of problems were i d e n t i f i e d . One of these concerned the q u a n t i t y 01 plasma permitted t o be taken by plasmapheresis and another concerned the i m u n i e a t i o n 05 donors f o r t h e p r o v i s i o n of hyperimmune globulins. Accordingly, a Group of Consultants was convencd t o d i s c u s s t h e v a r i o u s i s s u e s concerned with plasmapheresis and t h e immunization of donors.
