All regions experienced. significant declines between 1989 and 1991. For the second consecutive year, the median income of households inside metropolitan areas experienced a decline in real income, while the median income of households outside metropolitan areas showed no significant change. The real median income of households inside metropolitan areas declined by 3.6 (+0.9) percent from $33,162 (+$263) to $31,975 (+ $270) between 1990 and 1991. The median income of households outside metropolitan areas was $24,691 (ñ$541) ...
