Excerpt
Excerpt: General Aviation Initiatives: Pamela Hamilton, Director of Aviation Initiatives, TSA, briefed ASAC on TSA initiatives concerning general aviation (GA) and asked for ASAC?s assistance in chartering a working group to consider security measures at general aviation airports. Among Ms. Hamilton?s key points: // TSA defines GA to be ?anything other than commercial or military aviation.? // GA operations are very diverse and have significant economic, financial, practical and social importance. Sixty-nine percent of GA operations are conducted in single-engine aircraft about the size of a Honda Civic that carry about 50 gallons of fuel. // TSA is working to develop a threat-driven approach to managing GA security, and will work collaboratively with the GA community, particularly the members of the ?General Aviation Coalition,? to develop security policies. // Recent collaborative efforts include the GA Airport Watch partnership with AOPA, and the TSA Access Certificate (TSAC) pilot project partnership with NBAA and the Teterboro (NJ) Users Group.
