Summary
Summary: This study projects the public accounts of the federal and Qu‚bec governments up to the year 2019-2020. While the Qu‚bec government will post an annual average deficit of $3 billion over the forecast period, the budget surplus of the Government of Canada will reach $87.8 billion in 2019-2020. Given the rapid aging of the population, health care spending will account for 43.2 per cent of the Qu‚bec government?s budgetary revenues in 2019-2020, compared with 31.6% in 2000-2001. Slower growth in education spending will not offset the rapid increase in health care spending. Overall, the rate of growth in spending will exceed that of revenues.
