Summary
An allegorical short story of a privileged boy named Foy. Given a ticket in the mail, Foy embarks during the night on a mystical spring cruise ship called the Levantic. On this ship of many wonders, he encounters fellow wealthy children and a distasteful vagrant. Over the course of the week, his perception of the world changes. Guided by the personifications, Foy learns about trust, friendship, forgiveness and the primary purpose of knowledge and wealth. The story climaxes in a fantastical and transformative feast. He returns to his life with new understanding and a symbol of his commitment.

Excerpt
Distraught, Foy returns to the ring of stones encircled by sharp briers. The muddled Foy sat on a stone. His despair overwhelmed all else. Suddenly, a single sentence from the second mate came to mind, “No trust in your heart?”.
