Excerpt
Excerpt: Intensive marine shrimp farming has been practiced for some 10 years during which period shrimp culture expanded rapidly along the coastal provinces of the country. Aquatic pollution due to effluent discharges and encroachment of culture areas into various ecosystems have been associated with the deterioration of coastal environment and mangrove destruction. Drug (and antibiotic) residues in shrimp flesh have also been found from time to time, causing in a few cases the rejection of products by importers. Mass mortalities caused by water pollution and diseases have occurred in many culture areas which have led to decrease in production and crop failures.
