Nutrition monitoring in the United States is a complex system of coordinated activities that provides information about the dietary, nutritional, and related health status of Americans; the relationships between diet and health; and the factors affecting dietary and nutritional status. Surveys, surveillance systems, and other monitoring activities comprise the measurement component areas of the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Program (NNMRRP), which was recently strengthened with the passage of the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act of 1990 (l).
