SURVEY METHODS I PURPOSE OF THE WHO EAR AND HEARING DISORDERS SURVEY PROTOCOL There is a considerable scarcity of reliable, standardised, population-based data on the prevalence and causes of deafness and hearing impairment in developing countries. This protocol describes a method using a standardised survey form and coding instructions to enable countries to carry out prevalence and causes surveys of deafness and hearing impairment, and of ear diseases.
