Excerpt
For several decades there has been mounting concern over assuring continued and responsible involvement of human subjects in biomedical research. Many international organizations, national agencies, professional scientific groups, and science-research institutions have established guidelines and procedures to standardize and/or regulate the experimentation in which humans take part. In some countries comprehensive mechanisms have been designed to insure and document the voluntary and informed participation of human research subjects.
