Excerpt: This article presents estimates of the transportation satellite accounts (TSA?s) for 1996, which update the 1992 TSA?s. Like the 1992 TSA?s, the 1996 TSA?s are based on, and are an extension of, the input-output (I-O) accounts; they are constructed by rearranging the I-O data and by adding information from other sources of transportation data. The TSA?s were developed jointly by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
