Description
For the author, this book holds special significance. It brings together three out of many books about the USA. These three books were written over the past fifteen years, with intervals of approximately five years each. They represent personal impressions, feelings, reflections, and inevitable memories reflecting over twenty years of experience researching the country where the author lived for eleven years, working as a correspondent for the newspaper. The last of the included books already in its title indicates some kind of culmination of all this - it is the journey of an Americanist. My own life has become the life of an Americanist, a person writing about the United States, not immediately and unnoticed by myself. Each of the three books was written separately, without thought of continuation. But my life continued, and again and again there arose a need to express what did not fit into a newspaper column. Without thinking about continuation, the result was a kind of trilogy with an internal connection between its New York and California parts, with the development of the author's view of America, of oneself, of the world. As one writer said, books are written about time and about oneself. This is a long look at America from the perspective of a Russian Soviet person. It is also the perspective of an Americanist on his own country. Every socially conscious person seeks his path for his homeland and his people. Due to the circumstances of life, the author sought it in the most complete, sincere, and accurate description of America and Americans, and of that era that united us with a common fate, a common necessity for survival. To what extent this path was found and traversed, the reader will determine according to their understanding and spiritual richness.
